The Wells College men's soccer team picked up its second win in as many days with a 9-1 victory over Hilbert College on Sunday, Sept. 9 at the Wells Turf Field. Wells is 2-3-0 on the season and Hilbert is 0-3-0. Nine goals scored is a record for most goals scored in a game by the Express in the 13-year history of the men's soccer program.
Wells opened the scoring in the third minute when Garavito scored from close range on an assist from Junger Vargas. Garavito added his second goal of the match and his team-leading fourth goal of the season when he converted a penalty in the 24th minute after a Hilbert player was called for handball inside the penalty area.
Adam Whitaker, Padraic Iannello, Shane Syms, and Peter DiLauro all scored for Wells before halftime. For each of those players it was his first goal of the season. Whitaker converted a header off of a corner kick. Ianello had a back-post tap-in following a pass from Justin Butler. Syms scored on a rebound after his initial shot was saved. DiLauro ran onto a through-ball from Pete Paluch and slotted home a left-foot shot.
Wells held a 22-6 advantage in shots. Colton Jaquith had two saves.
The Express returns to action Wednesday, Sept. 12 at King's College.
